Bible Readings for the Home Circle had its beginnings back in the 1880s as a monthly, subscription magazine called Bible-Reading Gazette. The twelve issues of 1884 contained 162 lessons written by many ministers and lay evangelistic workers on a wide range of scriptural topics covering the cardinal teachings of the Bible. Extra copies were later bound in book form and sold door-to-door with great acceptance by the general public. This bound volume of Bible studies later received its present name and by the 1914 date of this reproduced edition it had expanded to 790 pages, with 200 readings of nearly 4,000 questions and scriptural answers, interlaced with nearly 300 special illustrations, some 20 charts, and over 100 poems. This volume has proved a real blessing to countless millions of readers.

This 1914 edition of Bible Readings for the Home Circle has become especially treasured for its lucid, scripture supported explanation of the human nature of Christ found in Part IV with the title “A Sinless Life.” This study ties in beautifully with the study that follows it called “Our Pattern.”

Many Bible students of 100 years ago believed that prophecy predicted an important role for the country of Turkey in the closing strife of this world. This interpretation is explained in this volume in Part VI in the readings titled “The Seven Trumpets” and “The Eastern Question.” Recent events may bring many of us back to a greater appreciation of that position. With present day, fundamentalist Islam fueling terrorism in multiple areas of the world and having great influence over the oil reserves of the world, it—fundamentalist Islam wherever located—may very well play out the endtime role of fundamentalist Islam of 100 years ago—Turkey.
