Many Bible scholars have noted that God tends to send a prophet, or prophets, at the beginning, and also at the end, of the time prophecies predicting His interventions in the affairs of this earth. The following are major examples of this pattern.

In Daniel 9:24-27 is recorded the message of Daniel the prophet regarding seventy weeks, or 490 prophetic years, allotted to the Jewish nation. It predicted that the Messiah would begin His ministry in a.d. 27. Just prior to this date, the prophet John the Baptist was sent of God to draw the minds of the people to an understanding of the soon-to-be-fulfilled time prophecy, and to prepare their hearts to receive the soon-to-come Messiah—Jesus of Nazareth.

Thorough study reveals that this 490-year prophecy of Daniel is only the first portion of the longest time prophecy of the Bible—the 2300-day/year prediction recorded in Daniel 8:14. Following the same principles of interpretation (which reveal how Jesus and His disciples exactly fulfilled the time predictions of the seventy weeks prophecy), the 2300-day/year prophecy ended in 1844. It was then that Jesus our High Priest began His investigative judgment in the Heavenly Sanctuary which will end with the blotting out of the sins recorded there and to be quickly followed by His second coming to this earth, this time as King of kings, and Lord of lords.

Just as there was a special messenger to usher in the fulfillment of the seventy-week prophecy, just so God raised up a messenger to usher in the fulfillment of the prophesied events of the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary and the soon-to-follow second coming of Christ. In 1842, a young Methodist girl named Ellen Gould Harmon, who later became Ellen G. White and one of the founders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, began having visions from the Lord. By the time of her death in 1915, E. G. White had received some 2,000 visions and dreams and was one of the most published authors of all time. Millions accept her ministry and writings as that of a true messenger of the Lord. She constantly points us to the Scriptures for the basis of our faith and practice. She upholds Jesus as the center of all truth and the only One able to save us from our sins.

She wrote five major volumes covering the past, present, and future of this earth and the human race. These volumes have been judged by many readers to be an inspired commentary on the Bible. Patriarchs and Prophets covers the time from Creation and the beginning of sin and suffering to the end of King David’s reign. Prophets and Kings continues from King Solomon through the remainder of Old-Testament times. The Desire of Ages vividly portrays the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. The Acts of the Apostles gives the account of the early Christian church and those principally involved in its world-wide extension. The fifth volume, The Great Controversy, begins with the destruction of Jerusalem in a.d. 70 and follows the struggles of truth with error down through the Dark Ages into the Reformation period and the spiritual revivals of the last two hundred years. The author clearly describes from the Bible the long-lost truths regarding what happens at death; the perpetual nature of God’s law, the seventh-day Sabbath, Christ’s atoning ministry in the heavenly sanctuary; justification, sanctification, and glorification through faith in Christ Jesus; and other truths essential for escaping the deceptions of Satan in these last days. Emphasis is placed upon the great prophecies of the books of Daniel and the Revelation. A clear description is provided of the over-arching great controversy between Christ and Satan, which began in heaven but is presently battling over the souls of mankind and will be brought to an end here on this earth.

The above five volumes are center-referenced in this study Bible. A mouse click on a reference will open the indicated volume to its referenced page. There the reader will find the respective Scripture verses quoted, or alluded to, or comments that are related to it. It will be found that these five volumes shed much clarifying light upon the Scripture.

Four other volumes by the same author are also referenced in the center column. Christ’s Object Lessons brings out spiritual lessons from the stories which Jesus told while on earth. Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing focuses on the lessons from Christ’s sermon on the mount as recorded in chapters five through seven of Matthew. Steps to Christ has proven to be a great blessing to countless millions in how to come to Christ and how to maintain that abiding presence in Him. The Ministry of Healing guides us in how to apply Christ’s methods of ministry to the body as well as to the soul in our ministry for Him in our home and neighborhood.

The different colors of the center-column references indicate the following: The darker colors wine and black are for the featured five volumes of the Conflict of the Ages series. The lighter shades are for the other referenced four volumes. The black and gray indicate references appearing earlier in a given chapter.

The nine referenced volumes can be accessed not only by clicking on the center-column references but also can be read in their entirety by going to their respective table of contents page at the bottom of the Bookmark panel of the Study Bible. The Bible, and all the other volumes, have the highlight, underline, select, copy, paste, sticky notes, print, word and phrase search features. In the Bookmark panel, you will also find the Table of Contents pages for Bible Readings for the Home Circle. This is an electronic reproduction of the 1914 edition with nearly 300 hand drawn illustrations and 200 readings in which are answered nearly 4,000 questions on important Bible subjects.

The primary purpose of these ten commentary and reference volumes is to facilitate all who desire, to be on the winning side of Christ in this most important conflict of all ages. With over fifty-six hundred pages adding clarity to multiplied thousands of Scripture references, these volumes emphasize those areas of Scripture which are the most enlightening and the most essential for the understanding of present truth for our troublous times and for Christ’s soon return.

 Patriarchs and Prophets

A Bible-based account of the beginning of this world, of mankind, and of the evil so prevalent today. Starting with creation week with the founding of God’s holy day as a memorial of His creative power, this volume recounts the struggle of mankind as buffeted by the forces of evil through the awesome world-wide flood, the lives of the patriarchs, the slavery of Israel in Egypt, their miraculous deliverance and establishment as God’s chosen people entrusted with His eternal commandments in the promised land down through the reign of King David.

 Prophets and Kings

This volume covers the last half of the Old Testament, from the ascension of Solomon to the throne of Israel to the prophesying of Malachi. It points out the great moral lessons to be learned from Israel’s triumphs, defeats, backslidings, captivity, and reformation, showing God’s mercy toward an obdurate people, and making these lessons of practical help to souls in times of testing. It abounds in great character studies, and above them all rises in glory supernal the coming King, the Lamb of God.

 The Desire of Ages

The heart-molding story of Jesus of Nazareth, the Desire of Ages, the promised Seed of the woman which was to conquer and eventually destroy the adversary of mankind—the serpent, the devil. This is the story of the central theme of all Scripture, the account of the life and ministry of the long-looked-for and yet misunderstood and rejected by most, Messiah, Emmanuel—God with us. Take time to meditate upon the life of Him whom, accepted into one’s life, transforms the mind and heart and promises to each repentant son and daughter of Adam time without end—eternal dwelling with Him who, during His three and one half years of ministry demonstrated His ability to deliver us from sin and to wipe away all tears from our eyes.

 The Acts of the Apostles

While this volume covers a period of a little more than three decades, the Bible’s book of Acts is filled with important lessons for the church in every age. God clearly indicates that the Christian today shall experience the presence of the same Spirit who came with power at Pentecost and fanned the gospel message into a flame. The acts of the Holy Spirit through Peter and Paul, John and James, and others can be repeated in the modern disciple. The abruptness with which the book of Acts closes is not accidental; it deliberately suggests that the thrilling narrative is unfinished, that the acts of God through the Spirit are to have their sequel throughout the Christian dispensation—each successive generation adding a chapter full of beauty and power to the one that preceded it.

 The Great Controversy

A portrayal of the history and future of the Christian Church from the destruction of ancient Jerusalem in A.D. 70 til the establishment of the New Jerusalem as God’s eternal capital of the universe on this earth restored, with emphasis upon the end-time prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation. A clear description is provided of the over-arching great controversy between Christ and Satan, which began in heaven but is presently battling over the souls of mankind and will be brought to an end here on this earth.
